Oh, I am super excited to share today’s card with you! I was inspired to make this card by someone I follow on Instagram, Kari V. Kari is so talented, but also really sweet and supportive! When I saw the card she made for the Lawn Fawnatic’s Music, TV or Movie challenge, knew I had to case her card. I didn’t add as many details as she had, because this card is for my son’s 18th birthday, and he’s a simple guy. Here is the link to Kari’s Card.
I’m sure you’re wondering how all of this ties into this week’s Simon Says Stamps Wednesday challenge. It just so happens that this week’s challenge is Anything Goes, and the product focus is Tim Holtz. Let me tell you, I did a lot of ink blending on this card, using Distress Oxide inks.
Here is my card:
The first thing I did was die cut the Mushroom from Lawn Fawn’s Mushroom House out of Distress Watercolor cardstock, and watercolor it with Altenew’s Watercolors. I like the look of the watercolors for the mushroom. While that was drying I worked on the rest of the card. I die cut the door frame and door from Lawn Fawn’s Neutral Woodgrain cardstock, then blended ink over it (the frame is Altenew’s Espresso and the door is Teal Cave).
I made the sky by blending Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink on a panel of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock using MFT’s Cloud stencil. The mountains from Mama Elephant’s Kingdom Trio die set were cut from Gina K Design’s Soft Stone Cardstock. I added Hickory Smoke and Black Soot Distress Oxide ink then sprayed it with Shimmer spray.
The grass and hills were die cut from MFT’s Limeade (the hills are MFT’s Snow Drifts, the grass MFT’s Grassy Fields). I blended Mowed Grass Distress Oxide ink over the grass. The light is from the Mushroom House set, cut from Neenah and colored with Copics.
The sign shape is from Concord and 9th’s Monster Hug, stamped in more Espresso and fussy cut. I used Concord and 9th’s Perfectly Penned for the letters.
I put the card together with Scor-Tape and added it to a Neenah card base. Then I added Blizzard Nuvo Drops for the snow on the mountains.
I did add a little something to the inside as well. I really wanted to add a dragon to the front of the card, but I had to stay true to the books. So, I snuck a dragon from Mama Elephant’s Me and My Dragons, along with a sentiment.
This card is so much fun! My son and I are both Lord of the Rings fans. It’s something special for just the two of us, as my daughter isn’t a fan. Daniel and I can sit and watch the movies all day long. As soon as I say Kari’s idea of a Hobbit card, I knew that was what I was making for his 18th Birthday. He’s going to be so surprised!
Thanks for stopping by!
