Super happy Monday to everyone! Sorry for my ridiculously peppy mood, but I am off today, playing with all the fabulous gifts I picked up yesterday (we’ll get into all that in a minute).
As I mentioned in a previous post, I went to The Daily Marker Coloring Challenge Road Trip that My Favorite Things hosted this past weekend. I keep saying this, but it bears repeating, thank you MFT for hosting Kathy. Being stuck in South Florida, I don’t get the opportunity to attend a lot of industry events. Nothing is within driving distance here… It’s great to finally get out and meet other crafters!
Here is the group picture from Sunday, the day I drove up.
I’m in between Kim and Brianna, kneeling on the ground getting ready to hand Brianna a banana chip to keep Pebbles photo ready. And yes, Heidi from Simon Says Stamps and her daughter Abby were in our class.
Let me start off by saying that MFT headquarters is awesome! They have a great store front and a fabulous classroom area! They had every tool you could imagine needing, a Copic refill area, comfy chairs and cute decor.
When we arrived, we all had piles of goodies at our seats.
MFT, Jennifer McGuire, Lawn Fawn and Kathy Racoosin. I can’t wait to show you what’s in those packages!
Not only did we all get gifts, but both Kathy and MFT handed out prizes. Yours truly won a gift bag from Scrapbook Adhesives. That was me on MFT’s instagram story yesterday.
In addition to the class that Kathy taught, we had a fabulous lunch, catered by a local company. Look at that salad!
I learned a lot of great techniques from Kathy, but I think the two biggest takeaways were to practice and experiment. I try to stick to all the Copic rules out there and then I’m not happy when it doesn’t look right. So much so, I’ve taken up other mediums and moved away from what I started out doing, coloring critters.
This is what I colored yesterday, and the only one that I showed to Kathy was the purple Magnolia and only then because my table mates really showed her.
I wasn’t happy with the large floral image because I tried using my Distress Markers to watercolor and they just don’t move on paper like the Fabre Castell watercolor pencils do. I switched to them but I had already messed up one flower. Let’s not even talk about the Copic coloring on the MFT image…
But, I am excited to try the new things that Kathy taught us! I’m not giving up!
On to the fun part! Everyone was so incredibly generous with us!
Jennifer McGuire sent us a goodie bag with Share Handmade Kindness pins, stickers, pencils and a sweet note. Lawn Fawn sent their awesome stamp shammies! Kathy gave us a clipboard with her 10 coloring tips.
Now before we get to the MFT goodies I have a funny story to share. For this Road Trip Kathy had 2 classes, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. I was sneaking around on social media Saturday to see if anyone was going to share what was in the box, lol. Someone had shared a picture of the tables and I was curious. Well, part of me wanted to know, but another part of me wanted to be surprised. I can tell you, the contents of that box were locked down tighter then the scripts for Game of Thrones! No one shared!!! I even commented on Sunday to Julie at MFT that I was surprised no one shared and she said I would understand when we opened the boxes.
And holy cow she wasn’t kidding!
They gave us each a September Card Kit, before it goes on sale! As a matter of fact, they didn’t even release the contents until Sunday morning! I did double check with MFT before sharing it here, and they said it was ok.
I did buy a couple of things while I was at the store, but it was Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock, Scor-tape and some Copic markers. Oh, I was going to grab some double sided adhesive sheets from Scrapbook Adhesive but, well, it was in my prize pack. I also grabbed the Happy Birthday Script die from their last release because it’s stunning!
I’m sorry if I am repeating myself, but I had so much fun yesterday! I had to leave early because my back was starting to hurt and I still had to drive 3 hours to get home. That was the only bummer. That and I wish I had gotten the opportunity to speak to more people there. Everyone was so sweet and fun!
I have watched all of the other Road Trip stops with envy, wishing I was able to go to one. Thank you again MFT, for hosting this for us!
Thank you for stopping by!
