Happy Friday! Let’s celebrate the weekend by taking a look at Concord and 9th’s new set, Grateful for You. I thought this large, gorgeous image would be perfect to practice watercoloring (I snuck in a sneak peak at some no line pencil coloring too).
Like watercoloring, I’m also super new to making videos. Please keep that in mind when you get to the Concord and 9th unboxing video at the end 😂.
First up, we have a traditional watercolor card.
I stamped the image on Distress Watercolor cardstock using Veraclair Nocturne ink, and embossed it with clear embossing powder. Then, I colored the image with Altenew’s new watercolor pan set. I honestly went blank on any techniques I do know and just filled the flower in. The I sort of remembered how to shade a bit…
My favorite part was the maple leaf, which I mixed orange and green on. It ended up a little more orange then I wanted, but I liked that I could blend the two colors.
I stamped the sentiments from the set with the same Versaclair ink and embossed with clear powder. I added Blackberry gems from Lucy’s Cards and MFT’s Cool as a Cucumber Card base.
I really enjoyed using the Altenew watercolors. Next time I’ll try being more mindful about what I’m doing lol.
Next up, a not so traditional watercolor card.
I started this card by stamping the image with Versamark ink and embossing with Hero Arts Silver embossing powder. My plan was to just paint the large flower with some of the handmade Mica paints I have and leave the rest alone. However, after I painted in the flower, the card looked like it was missing something.
I thought maybe painting the rest of the image a light gray would help… but some of the gray ended up darker then I wanted. The shimmer from the Mica paint was also an issue (I know, I didn’t think there was such a thing as too much shimmer either).
I decided to add some non-shimmer paint to the flower, tone it down. I grabbed Altenew’s Puffy Heart paint and added it.
I used the same color ink to add the sentiment, which is from C&9’s Many Mandalas.
There is still quiet a bit of shimmer, but it now has some pigment too.
I added some Rose Pink gems from Lucy’s cards to accent the card, and a Gina K. Design’s Moonlit Fog Card base (matching envelope too).
I’m ok with the card, but I kinda wish I had added some color to another area of the image, maybe the flower bulbs.
Bonus card: not watercolor.
One of the things I mention in the unboxing video that caught my eye about this set was the solid background stamps that frame the image. You know I had to try it!
I started out stamping the image with Versamark ink and heat embossing with Hero Arts’ Silver powder. Next, I stamped the background images with Pink Shimmer Delicata ink.
I trimmed the panel down with a stitched rectangle die, and then had to figure out what to do for a sentiment. I didn’t leave enough room to use the scripts Grateful stamp in the kit, so I decided to use the sentiment die.
I die cut the sentiment three times from MFT’s Tickled Pink cardstock and layered them together with liquid adhesive. I added the layered sentiment to the card panel with the same liquid adhesive.
Pink Rose Lucy’s Cards gems accent the image, and I used the same Tickled Pink cardstock for the Card base. You guys know this combo of silver and Delicata shimmer pink is one of my favorites. Love this delicate look!
Here is a sneak peak at some no line colored pencil coloring using this image.
No line coloring with colored pencils is not quick lol. I’m hoping to finish this image this weekend.
Please have mercy on me, here is the video of me unboxing my order from Concord and 9th. Any video tips would be 💯 appreciated and welcome!
Thanks for stopping by and sticking around for this long post!
