Happy New Year! 2017 was very kind to me, in that I was able to take a breather in both my personal and my professional lives. I finished school at the end of 2016, so I had so much more free time. And, restructuring at work took a lot of the pressure off of me. Because of all that free time, I was in desperate need of a hobby (I couldn’t handle the switch from 110 mph to 50 mph). And that is how I found card making and this awesome community of crafty friends! Thank you 2017!
When I first saw the sketch for this week’s challenge I thought, “There is no way I can come up with something.” But, I guess I just needed a good challenge. I somehow ended up with two cards!
My first idea was to create a card with stars, but I don’t have any Stars Die-manic Staxs, and I didn’t have any luck with a star that would work from the sets I do have. While I was flipping through my sets, I came across the LLD Bundle of Baby Clothes, and a new idea was born (sorry, I couldn’t help it).
I cut a bunch of the bibs, shirts and onesies out of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 100 lb. cardstock, as well as some fun foam. Then I cut the little dress from some left over patterned paper I had. I adhered all of the pieces to the fun foam, and then to a Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80 lb. panel.
I stamped the sentiment from MFT’s LLD Welcome Baby in Delicata Pink in, and layered it over some DCWV glitter paper (the MFT Cotton Candy Sparkle cardstock I have was a little too bright for this).
I thought the card was a little plain, so before I adhered the sentiment, I cut out some tiny hearts and stars from scrap paper that matched the colors on the patterned paper, using the tiny dies from Bundle of Baby Clothes. I added these to the white die cuts, along with a pink bow for the dress. Then I added the sentiment with Scor-Tape.
The card base is Gina K. Design’s Bubble Gum Pink. I added some silver Liquid Pearls to where the snaps would be on the onesies, and clear Wink of Stella to the stars and hearts. What a super cute card!
Ok, I did mention two cards, right? Here is my second card.
It’s the same concept as the baby card, a bunch of white die cuts, then one “colored,” one. I used the star from Concord and 9th’s Joyful Bundle, and cut it from Neenah 110 lb. cardstock. I cut one gold glitter star from DCWV Glitzy cardstock, as well as the “Celebrate,” from MFT. I stuck to the sketch’s 4 rows with this card, since I could fit them in.
I used MFT’s Stitched Rectangle Scallop Edge Frames for the base panel, cut from 80 lb, Neenah, and adhered the stars with foam squares. I layered the glitter cut sentiment with a Neenah 110 lb. sentiment, to make it stronger. Then i adhered it to the stars, with some foam tape where it didn’t overlap the stars. The card base is MFT’s Kraft cardstock. It’s the perfect card to ring in the New Year with!
I actually had a lot of fun making these cards, which I didn’t think would happen when I first saw the sketch. I thought I was going to skip this challenge, it looked so difficult.
Thanks for stopping by, and all of your support this past year! Here’s to an amazing New Year!
