This week’s sketch challenge from MFT caught my eye. Here is the sketch.
I just ordered the MFT Stitched Rectangle Scallop Edge Frames and they arrived this week. I know, this picture clearly includes squares… I’m not a big fan of making square cards though. I pretty much stick to the traditional A2 size card.
For this card, I decided to attempt to use MFT’s Scribble Roses again. I’ve been fighting with this stamp and die set for two weeks now. I really wanted to use glitter paper to die cut the thin scribble roses. However, my dies do not seem to want to cut the paper… I tried DCWV paper, and no luck.
This week I also ordered MFT’s Sparkle paper in Pure Plum, Cotton Candy and Cornflower. So, attempt number two at cutting the scribble roses. Again it was hit or miss. I ended up trashing a couple of the flowers. I used an exacto knife to get the rest out. And I tried a ton of different tricks. I ran the dies through several times. I put the dies toward the outter edges of the cutting plate, so they hit where the pressure is higher (this helped a bit). Only thing I didn’t try was running it through with a card stock shim. I’m thinking about reaching out to MFT. I have heard they have great customer service.
Here is my card, after all that!
I would like to add that I used the largest Scallop Frame and made sure to tape it the the negative space it cut out, as I wanted a panel this size, and the Stitched Mini-Scallop Rectangles die-manics aren’t large enough.
Here is a close up of the sparkle paper roses.
